CDP launches Social Housing programme in Matera
Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP) has launched an important social housing programme in the city of Matera. The Esperia fund – managed by Fabrica SGR with 75% participation by the Investimenti per l’Abitare fund (CDP Investimenti SGR of the Cassa Depositi e Prestiti group) – has launched a development project involving the creation of 117 apartments for rent on 10-year terms at reduced rents. The regeneration of a portion of the city’s southern periphery falls within the broader urban regeneration project known as the Programma Integrato Housing Città dei Sassi, or Integrated Housing Programme for the ‘Città dei Sassi’ as Matera is known, promoted by the Basilicata Region and the Municipal Authorities.
Works on the area, which the fund recently acquired, are to be carried out by the Conscoop consortium and concluded in conjunction with the initiatives to be organised for the event in 2019 which will see Matera European Capital of Culture.
The city has a great deal of appeal for tourists from all over the world, who are fascinated by its history and beauty which feature in films by some big directors. In 1993 UNESCO declared the area around the Sassi of Matera to be a World Heritage Site since it constitutes an extraordinary urban ecosystem which has been successfully handed down over time to the present day.
The Italian National Social Housing Programme, or Programma Nazionale di Social Housing, falls within the objectives of a dedicated Investment Fund with a total provision of over €2 billion and includes the involvement of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti SpA, Italy’s Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and private institutional investors. The fund’s objective at a national level is the realisation, by 2020, of 20,000 housing units and 8,500 beds in university and short term residences.
