Fortress built in the second half of the 700s, used as a building to protect the coast, in the Municipality of Castagneto Carducci along the Tyrrhenian Riviera of northern Tuscany. The property, thanks to its location close to the beach, is well adaptable to be used as a touristic and hospitality facility.
The fortress is located on the beach of Marina di Castagneto, at the end of the road that from the exit of Donoratico of SS1 Aurelia, reaches the beach. The building was realized in 1785 from the project of the military Eng. Deodato Raj according to the orders of the Great Duke of Tuscany Leopold 1st. The fort is made up of two buildings: toward the sea there is the bastion with inclined walls and an external courtyard made of visible bricks, while next to this part toward the ground there is a second building, with a square plant, that is articulated on three floors above the ground and was originally used for sleeping bunkers of the guards. The ground floor was used for stables at the service of Cavalleggeri, on the main roof of the building there is a sight tower with a folded covering. The property is surrounded by an area of over 2,000 m².
The fortress, is in the Municipality of Castagneto Carducci (9,088 inhabitants), in the Province of Livorno (336,215 inhabitants), in the coastal area called Marina di Castagneto Carducci. The centre of the small Municipality is made up of a village near the climax of the hill, on which there is the Castle of the Conti della Gherardesca, once surrounded by walls of which the front towards the sea still survives and that together with the church of Saint Laurence, is the original nucleus of the city centre. The Municipality of Castagneto, thanks to the quality of the environment, of its protection and for the services offered to its citizens and its Summer visitors, has obtained important recognitions like, for example, the “Blue Flag” and the Environmental League recognition “Eco system holiday ”. The zone in which the property is located is reachable through SS-1 “Aurelia”, important connection that is along the Tyrrhenian coast from Rome to Ventimiglia (border with France). Livorno is 57 km away, Pisa 77 km away and Florence 132 km away. The international airport “Galileo Galilei” of Pisa (11th Italian airport with 5.2 million passengers in 2017) is 76 km from the property.
