After the end of World War II, the palace became seat of the Income Revenue Authority until 2002, when it was definitively closed. In 2009 it was bought by the Municipality with the purpose to use it as a new public library, but the project has never been realized.

The current project provides for the functional recovery, renewal, and enhancement of the palace, with the aim to create a new attractive center for the city of Gallarate and the smaller towns gravitating around the city’s service system. The project interventions aim to encourage the conservation and enhancement of the historical and architectural assets, as well as to improve the management methods, in order to promote the local economic development.

Palazzo Minoletti is a significant building for the city of Gallarate and, besides the ministerial protection that proves its historic-artistic importance, it must be protected and preserved through an adequate reuse and enhancement project, to bring eminence, economic development, and tourist resources to the city.

The challenge is to renew the building in a completely original way compared to past extemporaneous works, through a shared public and private planning, to turn Palazzo Minoletti into an effective flywheel for the city’s economy.

Palazzo Minoletti is in Piazza Garibaldi, a square just a few steps from the pedestrian zone of Gallarate. The square is bounded by numerous historical buildings; Palazzo Minoletti is just in front of the statue of Giuseppe Garibaldi situated at the centre of the square.

Gallarate is a city in the province of Varese, north of Milan, with a population of about 54.000 inhabitants. It is situated at the crossing of the railways that connect Milan to Varese, Laveno and Arona, 10 km east from the great hydroelectric power station of Vizzola, that produces 23.000 hp from the river Ticino. Its municipality is crossed by the river Arnetta and is part of the Ticino Natural Park.

The city had a strong textile industry in the first half of the 19th century.

Gallarate is located along the State Road SS33 “del Sempione” (Simplon). It has its own exit along the highway A8 (Autostrada dei Laghi), as well as on the branch A8-A26 (Gallarate-Gattico). The railway station of Gallarate, along the Simplon railway, serves as a branch of the railway Gallarate-Laveno and of the railway Gallarate-Varese. The line is served by regional trains of the company Trenord.
