Contrada San Cataldo, SP S. Cataldo - 73100 Lecce (LE) The compound, used by the Navy, is in the town quarter San Cataldo, at about 12 km from the centre of Lecce, main city of the Salento region, close to a nature reserve and near the Adriatic beaches. San Cataldo is a small marina, frequented mainly by the residents of Lecce but recently become a rather touristic Summer destination.
San Cataldo (San Catautu in the local dialect) is a seaside resort on the Adriatic Sea in the region of Lecce, at 11 km from the city. Its economy is based mainly on local Summer tourism. Lecce has direct rail connections to the main Italian cities, like Rome, Bologna, Turin and Milan.
The marina of San Cataldo is the nearest to Lecce and the best connected with the city, thanks to the Provincial Road SP364 (formerly SS543), which has the characteristics of a freeway. Lecce can be reached through the highway A14 Bologna-Taranto or the A16 Naples-Canosa: once in Bari, proceed in the direction of Brindisi and finally to Lecce along the State Road SS613.
The nearest airport is Brindisi, also called “Aeroporto del Salento”. Daily flights connect Lecce to Rome and Milan, but there are also direct flights to Bologna, Pisa and Turin, and to international destinations like London, Brussels, Paris and Barcelona. From the airport of Brindisi it is possible to reach Lecce by special shuttles or by car rental.
