The building is in Piazza Giuseppe Garibaldi 4, in the old town of Enna, in a particularly valuable area. The main façade of the Bank overlooks Piazza Garibaldi, where the headquarters of the Prefecture, of the Regional Province, of the Chamber of Commerce, of the Central Police Station and of the Finance Police stand.
The building was erected between the Thirties and the Fourties on an area purchased by the Bank of Italy in 1935.
The building was erected between the Thirties and the Fourties on an area purchased by the Bank of Italy in 1935. It was designed by Engineer Rocco Giglio of the bank’s technical office and was completed in January 1940.
At a later time, the Bank purchased, through the municipal administration, a portion of land behind the building, that was designated as a garden.
With regard to the building structure, the foundations are in continuous masonry, the supporting structure is in load-bearing masonry, except for the area of the public lounge which is made of a reinforced concrete frame structure. The floors are made of latero-cement slabs.
The facade is covered with travertine and bricks, while a large decorative cornice around the main door and a baseboard that reaches the windowsills of the raised ground floor are in Billiemi grey marble. The external fixtures are in solid wood and the roller shutters in plastic material.
The building has been declared of cultural interest pursuant to art. 10 paragraph 1 of Legislative decree 42/2004.
The appurtenant monumental garden is subject to constraints as of relevant “archaeological interest” pursuant to Law 1089/1939.
The building is in the old town of Enna, on the belvedere, in a commercially and institutionally active area. It is very close to the Prefecture, to the Central Police Station, to the post office, to the Chamber of Commerce, to the Town Hall and to many of the most important sites of historical and cultural interest, like the Cathedral of Maria Santissima della Visitazione, the Church of Santa Chiara, the Interdisciplinary Regional Museum of Enna.
Nearby there are some parking areas (in Piazza Garibaldi, along Viale Paolo e Caterina Savoca and in Viale G. Marconi).
