The Levante Waterfront masterplan confirms the sporting vocation of the Genoa Palasport (Pavilion S), providing for its redevelopment and functional conversion around the new Sports Arena.
The project, designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop, has reimagined the Arena as a highly flexible, high-quality space capable of hosting sporting activities, exhibitions, and live events, in line with the most advanced energy-efficiency standards.

The Arena has a capacity of 3,999 spectators in the standard configuration, 2,338 seats in the “training” configuration, and – subject to authorization – can accommodate up to 4,999 spectators.

Recently completed, the Arena occupies the core of the building and is arranged over four functional levels:

  • Basement level, including access routes, emergency exits, technical spaces, ticket offices, and reception areas for teams;

  • Ground floor, dedicated to sports activities, public access, services, and storage areas located beneath the stands;

  • First floor, housing seating tiers, skyboxes, press rooms, and food and beverage areas;

  • Second floor, allocated to the CONI gym, changing rooms, technical rooms, and multipurpose spaces.

The property has a gross floor area of 14,195 sqm, in addition to approximately 3,495 sqm of shared non-registerable common areas.
The total outdoor area amounts to 12,350 sqm, while common areas cover 3,500 sqm.

The complex is complemented by extensive parking facilities, including 570 private car parking spaces, 30 private motorcycle spaces, and 67 public parking spaces owned by the Municipality of Genoa.

The building, refurbished and completed in 2024, is now fully operational. The intended form of intervention is the management of the property.

With regard to the authorization process, the property is approved for use. On the occasion of specific events, including non-sporting public events, and subject to authorization—by way of derogation from current regulations—by the competent authorities, additional areas of the Arena’s parterre and other spaces may be used to reach a maximum capacity of 5,000 spectators.

The Arena is located in a semi-central area of Genoa (population 561,191), within the Eastern Waterfront project, an area undergoing redevelopment that will become a strategic hub for sports, events and tourism, 2 km on foot from the historic centre (Piazza De Ferrari). The area is characterized by a mix of residential, commercial and hospitality functions, with strong development potential. In the surroundings of the structure, important attractions, including the Old Port, the Aquarium and Genoa’s Fair can be found, which make it a strategic asset for events and entertainment. The area is easily accessible and well served by several public transport lines, as well as by the future expansion of the subway. The Genoa “Brignole” train station with the subway stop is 2 km away, while the “Piazza Principe” station is 6 km away. The SS-1 (Via Aurelia), a strategic road, passes through the urban section near the property, while the “Genova Ovest” exit of the A-7 motorway (Autostrada dei Giovi), which connects the city with Milan, is 7.5 km away. The “Cristoforo Colombo” international airport is 11 km away, while the ferry terminal is 7.5 km away.
