The seaside holiday resorts, established throughout Italy by the Fascist regime until 1942, had a strategic function in strengthening the regime’s social and comradely vocation and in promoting its ideological indoctrination policies. The former Santa Severa seaside holiday resort consisted of several buildings: a gymnasium, a guesthouse, a caretaker’s quarters, and the main building, all built on a large plot of land overlooking the sea. The main building, with a rectangular layout, is divided into four floors above ground and housed the children’s quarters; adjoining it is a one- or two-story building of considerable length with a portico in front, which housed the kitchens, the refectory, and other rooms serving the facility.

The property is located in the municipality of Santa Marinella (population 18,420), within the Metropolitan City of Rome, in the hamlet of Santa Severa, an important seaside resort in Lazio, not far from the medieval castle of the same name. Vehicle accessibility is guaranteed by the SS-1 (Via Aurelia), an important consular road connecting Rome to Ventimiglia and passing 100 meters from the property; the “S. Marinella-S. Severa” exit on the A-12 (Rome-Civitavecchia) motorway is 3.7 km from the property (a 7-minute drive), allowing access to Rome in 40-45 minutes. The Santa Severa train station, on the Rome-Civitavecchia regional line, with frequent trains, is 2 km from the property, while Rome-Fiumicino International Airport is approximately 46 km away (a 30-35 minute drive).
