The Augusta Airship Hangar is a sky-earth building of great historical and architectural value, flanked by various ancillary buildings. The main structure develops on a single floor above ground, with a reinforced concrete rigid frame, brick infill walls and a barrel roof, which creates a vast internal space without pillars. The accessory buildings have different typologies, and some are in a state of decay.

The current intended use is a “military area”, but the current General Urban Plan and the enhancing initiative provide for the possibility of transformation into tourist-cultural, social and environmental functions, always respecting the constraints of historical-artistic and landscape protection. The property is in fact subject to constraints of cultural and landscape interest, with specific requirements of the Superintendency. From a historical point of view, it is a rare example of military architecture, linked to the development of aeronautics and the history of the territory. Any restoration project must guarantee the preservation of the original characteristics and the integration with the surrounding natural and urban context.

The property is located in a peripheral area south of Augusta, in a context characterized by predominantly military and industrial use It is easily reachable via the main roads: State Road 114 connects Augusta to Syracuse and Catania, while the A18 motorway is about 10 km away. The Augusta train station is about 5 km away, while Catania international airport can be reached in about 40 minutes by car. The historic centre of Augusta, with the Castello Svevo and other important monuments, is about 6 km away. Nearby there are also the commercial port and areas of naturalistic interest. Connections by public transport are guaranteed with extra-urban and railway lines.
