The property, used as a civilian concentration camp during the Second World War, was built in 1941 on expropriated land: the camp was mainly configured as a place of internment for families. The farmland on which the former prison facility stands extend for approximately 29 hectares. From the beginning, it was divided into three distinct areas: the Anticamp, where the military resided; the First and Second Camp for the prisoners and the External areas pertaining to the Anticamp and the buffer zones of the fence.

The property in its entirety is subject to historical redevelopment and recovery, due to its uniqueness and homogeneity: a point of departure and return for guided tours and excursions.

Most of the structures were built with cheap materials: bricks with a double-pitched roof covered with tiles and pantiles; there are no elements of architectural merit, no quality materials were used and many buildings lack roofing, fixtures and systems. Three of the buildings in the Anticamp area are in an excellent state of conservation, as they were totally restored and restored during the Jubilee of 2000 for tourist accommodation purposes; these structures have typical “slow tourism” characteristics and allow travellers to immediately immerse themselves in a particularly evocative context.

Located in the municipality of Alatri (population 28,884) in the province of Frosinone, the property can be easily reached both by car and by local transport lines, as it is positioned in a flat valley surrounded by mountains. 15 km away from Frosinone, the provincial capital, which can be reached via the A-1 motorway (Rome-Naples), the asset is located in an area characterized by the architectural and naturalistic areas of the “historic Ciociaria”, a land rich in charm and centuries-old traditions. The territory also hosts: Abbey of Montecassino and of Casamari, the Certosa di Trisulti; archaeological sites such as the Acropolis of Alatri, Arpino, Ferentino, the Ancient Fregellae, Aquinum, the Casinum archaeological park; medieval villages: Fumone, Vico nel Lazio, Boville Ernica, Monte San Giovanni Campano, San Donato Val di Comino; as well as fortresses, castles and caves. “Green itineraries” immersed in the nature of park and routes along rivers and lakes can be found in the area. Rome is 90 km away (60-90 minutes by car) while Frosinone train station is 17 km from the property.
