The real estate complex is composed of one large area that boasts irregularities both in the layout and the elevation profile, one link road that takes to State Road SS-12, one small, ruined building and the stronghold itself. The Stronghold, laid out on two levels with an irregular plan that follows the ruggedness of the rocky terrain, is entirely built with “rosso ammonitico” limestone ashlars. It boasts an external fencing that encloses, to the North, the casemate fortified gun emplacement, protected by a layer of rammed earth, while a box-shaped redoubt can be found to the South. Within the complex, big tanks for the collection of rain water are present. The inner side consists of a lateral continuation of the casemate with two embrasures and a blockhaus, that is a concrete defensive barrack hosting an ammunition warehouse with embrasures. Moreover, the stronghold presents a side structure for the staircase that leads to the upper terrace, enclosed by an iron parapet. The complex is surrounded by a 5m-large ditch and the only access is via a drawbridge. The property is devoid of services and facilities. The small building located to the South of the complex, which was originally used first as a gatehouse and then as accommodation, is currently in ruins. The external area goes from North to South and is covered with trees and shrubs.

The real estate complex is located in the Municipality of Dolcè (population 2,526), in the Province of Verona (population 927,108), on the left bank of the Adige river, on top of the small plateau of Monte Pastello (236 m a.s.l.), in a dominant position with regard to the river bend below. The complex, of historic value, is part of the wider military structure of the Strongholds of the Rivoli Sluice, created in the 19th Century by the Habsburg government in order to defend the ancient “Venetian Sluice”, a nodal point connecting the Germanic world with the Mediterranean. Following Veneto’s reunification to Italy, the stronghold was modernised and improved so as to fit in the new defensive system created toward the Trentino’s border with the Habsburg Empire. The Venetian municipality is located to the East of Verona-Trento-Bolzano State Road SS-12, 9 km away from the Provincial Capital. The property can be accessed by a former military gravel road that stems from the aforementioned state road in Ceraino, which is about 1 km away from the urban surroundings of Dolcè.
