Dolo (VE) – Former Town Slaughterhouse

The estate, built in a neoclassical style half way through the 19th century, is located in the historic centre of Dolo, where the two parts of theriver Naviglio del Brenta meet. Restored in the 70s, it was used as a social hub and it’s rooms are currently used for exhibitions and conferences. It’s purpose can be changed into tertiary, residences, services and other cultural activities.

The property was built half way through the 19th century as the local slaughterhouse and is a single floor; it was built in a neoclassical style, the main façade is distinguished by a double tympanum and by a long porch with Tuscan columns. There are two vast main halls, two smaller ones, one used as a bar, the others for services and extra rooms. It was completely restored in 1976 and is currently used by the municipality of Dolo as a multipurpose area and theatre to host exhibitions and conferences. To promote the building that overlooks the Naviglio del Brenta with it’s broad spaces, it’s splendid cornices and settings of absolute value, it is being repurposed, making it available to host an array of different activities . It’s features could allow it to become an attraction of great interest as a cultural and social-economic hub in the area. The estate’s well preserved state and its current accommodating predisposition allows it to be used without making substantial modifications, perfect because of the landscape and environmental restrictions.

The estate is located in the historic centre of Dolo (pop. 14.953), part of the City of Venice (pop. 854.434). Dolo has a long history which originated in the middle ages and offers a series of historic-artistic attractions, such as the church of San Rocco, the Mills and the typical 16th century “Squero”, alongside numerous monumental villas of the same historic period. The nearest railway station is on the Milan-Venice line and is in the neighbouring fraction of Ballò di Mirano, 3,5 km from the town. It’s accessibility is guaranteed by the SR-11 Padana Superiore and by the SP-26. The closest toll-booth is “Mirano-Dolo” on the A-57 motorway (Tangenziale di Mestre, Mirano-Dolo), about 9 km away. Venice is 25 km away, Padova is 20 km and Treviso is 45 km away. Venice’s international airport “Marco Polo” (Italy’s 5th airport with 9,6 million passengers in 2016) is 30 km from the city.
