The site was used to dry and store rice and was abandoned in the 90’s; it’s located in Gambolò, in the province of Pavia. The existing buildings are in a poor condition and stand in a vast plot of land. The site could be redeveloped into a commercial building or into an industrial warehouse.
The site is made up of a storehouse with lateral awnings of 1.850 m², once used as storage space for rice, a drying warehouse of 200 m², as well as the custodian’s residence, a single floor building; there is also a porch which is 640 m² and an external area of 5.182 m². The warehouse is cement and brick with an arched roof supported by metal beams, with two spans connected one to the other and a partially collapsed covering made from asbestos. The drying warehouse is constructed in the same way. The site is in complete abandonment and there is still all the machinery used to work the rice present. It’s located in an area with an integrated intervention plan (PII) in place, and is partially in compliance with the nearby cemetery.
The estate is on the outskirts of Gambolò (pop. 10.260), in the province of Pavia (pop. 547.926), in an agricultural-industrial area. The Terdoppio Stream passes close to the site and it is near to the city’s cemetery. It is accessible from Via della Cascina Litta, at the intersection with the SP-81 which passes through the town, while nearby (about 6 km away) there’s the SS-596 “dei Cairoli”, that connects Pavia to Vercelli, that are respectively 35 and 40 km away. Mortara’s Integrated Logistics Park is 10 km from the area (it covers 600.000 m² of land, about 300.000 m² of which are logistical and directional warehouses). The “Monferrato Nord” toll-booth on the A-26 motorway (“dei Trafori”), that connects Genoa with Switzerland, is 38 km away, while the “Pavia Sud” toll-booth on the A-7 motorway (Genoa-Milan) is 20 km from the town.
