The old hamlet presents 6 restored real estate units, while most of the valuable ancient buildings require complete renovation. 5% of the structures are in good condition, while the remaining portion of the properties are in poor maintenance conditions. All the walls are made of quarry stone. In the hamlet, the houses are arranged according to an order that responds to the contingent needs of the various eras in which they were built, a typical element of medieval urban planning. All the real estate units are uninhabited, including those renovated in the recent past. The hamlet is subject to historical landscape constraints as a historic centre within the Pollino National Park; the redevelopment of the medieval site must be approved by the competent authorities of the competent Ministry aimed at protecting it.

Laino Castello (population 769) is located in the province of Cosenza, within the Pollino National Park. The hamlet is surrounded by numerous historic cities and well-known tourist resorts such as Maratea, Praia a Mare and Scalea. It is located at 545 meters above sea level and can be easily reached thanks to the A-3 motorway, which is about 5 km away (7 minutes by car). The international airport of Lamezia Terme offers daily connections to the main Italian cities and numerous European locations and is 165 km away (95 minutes by car), while Salerno-Costa d’Amalfi Airport is 145 km away (90 minutes by car). The cities of Cosenza and Salerno are 102 and 159 km from the area (60 and 90 minutes by car) respectively. The nearest train station is Praja-Ajeta-Tortora, on the regional Cosenza-Paola line, which is 55 km from the hamlet (60 minutes by car).
