The transformation of an old industrial building into an innovative space is the focal point that emphasises collaboration, accessibility and developing new technical skills in Quistello and its surroundings. An open and central learning environment was created through an internal hall. As a result, the student, the specialist, and the person are challenged to participate. The multifunctional grandstand, which can be a staircase, auditorium, and meeting space, ensures cross-disciplinary conception between the departments and turns the inner hall into the beating heart of the Q-Rehab Centre. The existing industrial building was built according to the principles of a precast concrete skeleton . After a technical analysis of the existing construction, the building was stripped of its essence: a double-height space consisting of concrete columns, beams and floors. By locally adding a new intermediate floor, an open interior hall is created, surrounded by ateliers/departments; workplaces and classrooms. On the side aisles, there are spaces for the diagnostic, day hospital and rehabilitation department together with the homogeneous functional areas of general services and general health services on the ground floor.

These remain physically closed but visually engage with the inner hall, thanks to glass windows. The old building will house a modern rehabilitation centre. The ground floor will be equipped for post-traumatic physiotherapy: there will be triage rooms used by the diagnostic department, a rehabilitation pool and gym and a day hospital service. The facility will also offer socialisation spaces for daily life. On the first floor, there will be a specialised rehabilitation facility with classrooms for teaching and a spacious conference room with a capacity of 100 people. In the outdoor area, there will be a building with flats for families of long-term patients. In addition, some residences will be allocated to self-sufficient elderly residents who can feel part of a small community here and can use the public services of the centre and the nearby nursing home for the elderly.

Quistello is a municipality of 5,543 inhabitants in the province of Mantua, about 150 kilometres southeast of Milan and about 20 kilometres southeast of Mantua. The town lies on the banks of the Secchia River and is bordered by the 45th parallel.

The territory is crossed by the Suzzara-Ferrara railway and is served by two stations: Quistello and San Rocco Mantovano, both belonging to Ferrovie Emilia Romagna (FER).
