The Former Porta Camollia air‑raid shelter is an underground historic structure owned by the State and located within Siena’s urban centre, inside the medieval city walls and near the historic Porta Camollia, the city’s main northern gateway. The property consists of a fully underground gallery arranged on a single level, with dual access points from Viale Don Minzoni and Via Biagio da Montluc. The structure features a lowered brick barrel‑vaulted roof, plastered masonry walls, and flooring partly in concrete and partly in compacted earth. The central portion is closed off by a masonry partition that divides the asset into two distinct units.

Built during the Second World War period as an air‑raid shelter for the civilian population, it represents a significant testimony to the city’s history and to the defensive system connected with Siena’s historic walls. The property is currently unused and is in a generally poor condition, making restoration and functional improving works necessary.

Enhancement scenarios include uses compatible with cultural, exhibition, museum, artistic, recreational, and socio‑touristic activities. The property is subject to historic‑artistic protection under Legislative Decree 42/2004 and protected as a cultural asset belonging to the State’s historic‑artistic domain.

The Former Porta Camollia air‑raid shelter is located in a strategic position at the northern entrance to Siena’s UNESCO‑listed historic centre, between Viale Don Minzoni and Via Biagio da Montluc, near the historic Porta Camollia and along the route of the Via Francigena.
The urban context is characterised by predominant residential, commercial, tourist, and cultural functions typical of Siena’s historic centre.
The property benefits from its proximity to Siena railway station (approximately 1 km), to the main urban and interurban bus connections, and to the principal road routes (the Siena–Florence Highway and the Siena–Bettolle State Road). Piazza del Campo, the Cathedral, and the other main historic‑cultural attractions are easily reachable on foot within a few minutes. Florence Airport is located approximately 80 km away.
