Property previously used as barracks by the Italian financial police, situated in the mountain locality of Cave del Predil, a hamlet of Tarvisio, approximately 1.5 km away from Lake Predil and the Cave del Predil Museum Centre.
The building was previously used as barracks by the Guardia di Finanza (Italian Financial Police), responsible for border control. The property is built on a rectangular floor plan, two floors above ground level, and comes with attic space. The building is composed of a mixed masonry structure with reinforced concrete edging and a cement mix floor with a pitched roof and a lacquered metal covering sheet. The internal and external surfaces are plastered and painted, the internal frames are made of wood like the window frames, made of a double frame type (“Wagner”). The property is in mediocre condition in terms of how well it’s been preserved. In addition to the main building, the property is accompanied by an outside area and a small artifact which could be used in a kennel, also in mediocre condition.
The property is located in the semi-central area of the mountain village of Cave del Predil, (a hamlet of Tarvisio) close to the main road network SS54 that crosses this area, and leads to the state border with Slovenia. It is located approximately 1.5 km from Lake Predil, a lake marked out by its deep blue-green waters, where there is also a bathing establishment.
Approximately 500 metres away from the complex, there is the Cave del Predil Museum Centre that joins the Historical Military Historical of the Alpi Giulie (MSM) to the International Geomineral Park (PIG), and the Museum of Mining Tradition and the Mine Lab (ML).
In the surrounding 10km, there is the Tarvisio – Monte Lussari ski area and the Sella Nevea ski resort.
