La Marmora Barracks were built in the 40s in order to strengthen the Italian military presence along the Italian-Austrian border. Following the Second World War it was home to various departments of the “Julia Alpine Brigade”.

It is therefore a former military structure located not far from the centre of Tarvisio, on the border with Austria and Slovenia and is located in a natural setting of rare beauty. It is a vast real estate complex consisting of a large outdoor partly wooded area and numerous buildings of which about fifteen are main buildings and other ancillary, built for military use by Defence and subsequently abandoned. The former Palazzina Fucilieri, the main building facing the street, houses dormitories, kitchens and dining halls; it is divided into four floors above ground and overlooks the main road of the town. The complex is also accessed by secondary entrances, both pedestrian and for vehicle circulation positioned along the borders.

The property is located in Tarvisio in the suburban area of the historic centre, but adjacent to the SS13 state road, also called Pontebbana, which connects Venice to the town of Coccau in the municipality of Tarvisio. The former Caserma La Marmora is located in a strategic point from a tourist point of view as it is close to the ski area. Tarvisio is surrounded by the Julian Alps and is surrounded by many wide valleys and woods as well as the forest. Due to its particular position close to the border and its morphology, it is a summer and winter tourist destination for outdoor activities. Mount Lussari and Mount Florianca are favorite destinations for ski enthusiasts due to over 25 km of slopes. Furthermore, Mount Lussari is the point of arrival of the Cammino Celeste; a pilgrimage route that connects the places of worship of Aquileia to the Sanctuary located at the top of the Mount.
