ABI: + 2.3% mortgages in September, spread effect on rates for households and businesses

Posted: 21 November 2018

At 31 October, loans to households and businesses grew by 1.9% on an annual basis, continuing the positive overall trend in total loans (the annual rate of change has been positive for over 2 years).

According to ABI – Italian Banking Association, the total amount of family mortgages increases by + 2.3% on an annual basis.

However, the increase in the spread on sovereign bonds increases interest rates on new financing transactions.

The average rate on new home purchase transactions was 1.87%, up from 1.80% in September 2018 (5.72% at the end of 2007).
