The former production site, known as the “ex Cementificio Pesenti”, was for many years one of the largest and most modern cement factories in Europe and is currently one of the most important examples of industrial architecture in Italy. The monumental building is divided into several main parts, walkways, 12 vertical ovens, 6 circular fireplaces, large vaulted spaces and is supported by Doric style columns. The project entails the redevelopment of this unique example of industrial archaeology and its functional recovery with spaces for training activities, start-up development, exhibitions and cultural spaces. The aim is to transform the property from a disused factory into a ‘forge of knowledge’.

The property is located in the central area of Alzano Lombardo (population 13,386), a municipality in the province of Bergamo (population 1,106,303), in the Seriana Valley. The area is located in a strategic position with respect to the infrastructural interconnections of the territory. Near the property there is the TEB – Bergamo electric tram stop, and a multi-storey car park can also be found nearby; the territory is also crossed by the Val Seriana cycle-pedestrian path, which extends for over 30 km along the Serio river. The local road system is guaranteed by the SS-671 and the SP-35. which allow one to quickly reach the city of Bergamo, which is approximately 9 km from the area (15-20 minutes by car). The “Bergamo” exit of the A-4 motorway (Turin-Trieste) and the “Orio al Serio” international airport (3rd Italian airport for passenger traffic) are located approximately 11 km from the property (15-20 minutes by car).
