Maritime signalling structure, situated on the extremity of the Punta Alice, in the Ionian Sea, at a short distance from the area of Cirò Marina, along a coastal zone of considerable touristic interest. The property thanks to its location, is adaptable to be used as a tourist and recreational structure. The signalling lantern remains on and the spaces will continue to be used and managed by the Ministry of Defence/MARIFARI.
Località Punta Alice - 88811 Ciro' Marina (KR) The property was built at the end of the 19th century and is made up of a white octagonal lighthouse tower of considerable height with an internal stairway, inserted on the wider side of a building with a rectangular plan with two stories that, in the past, before the definite automation of the lantern, also hosted the houses of the watchers; in the complex it is also possible to find some accessory buildings with other functions. The lighthouse is inserted in the project “FARI, TORRI ED EDIFICI COSTIERI” (lighthouses, towers and coastal buildings) within the wider initiative called “Valore Paese – DIMORE”. The project regards a network of lighthouses to be developed according to a model of lighthouse accommodation, with respect to the landscape and the environment, that in the coastal contexts emerge for absolute beauty and maximum fragility. The lighthouses can welcome touristic, accommodation, restaurant, educational, promotional activities together with cultural, social, sporting and territorial discovery initiatives and events. New Uses For the entire surface, except for government uses, the use foreseen is for recreational and tourist with the possibility of high value cultural events tied, for example, to scientific research and/or environment and/or education especially connected to the landscape and historical context. Regarding the surface for governmental use the public utility service is foreseen (lantern with active signalling managed by the Ministry of Defence and connected access.) For the entire surface, the realization of areas to be used for accessibility, for services and compatible equipment is foreseen.
The property is situated in the Municipality of Cirò Marina (14,847 inhabitants), small city along the Ionian coast of Calabria, situated in the northern point of the Province of Crotone (175,556 inhabitants). The small city is developed on an area of the antique colony of Magna Grecia, Krimisa, going back to the 7th and 6th centuries B.C. and afterwards abandoned by the population in the medieval period due to the continuous Saracen incursions. The place has been an important tourist location, well known for the beauty of its beaches and the quality if its services and every year it obtains the main recognitions of the field (Bandiera Blu/Verde – Blue/Green flag). The tourist offer is completed by the presence of considerable archaeological ruins tied to the orgins of the city. The access to the zone is guaranteed by the SS-106 (Jonica) central road connection that goes along the Ionian side of the peninsula connecting Reggio Calabria to Taranto. The railway station of Cirò Marina, that guarantees connections to the cities of Sibari, Taranto, Catanzaro and Reggio Calabria, is about 7 km away.
