The property consists of the lighthouse keeper’s accommodation, which was abandoned in the 1950s and handed over to the State Property Agency in 2009. Built on a single level at the end of the 19th century, it covers approximately 170 sqm and is surrounded by a large external area of 1,000 sqm; an underground water tank (23 sqm) can be found on the premises. Located at the entrance to the area, where the lighthouse is located, the property is easily accessible from the SS-106. The Punta Stilo area is rich in archaeological evidence, including the park and museum of ancient Kaulonia, a Greek colony founded in the 7th century BC and destroyed by the Romans in the 3rd century BC; the entire compendium, consisting of the “Punta Stilo Lighthouse” and the lighthouse keeper’s accommodation, was declared of historical-artistic interest by the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities, with provision no. 11 of 2004. Punta Stilo offers a splendid natural panorama, overlooking the sea and the Mediterranean scrub. The location of the property offers new “slow tourism” possibilities in an area rich in history and natural beauty. Punta Stilo and Capo Stilo, once points of reference on nautical maps, represent a crossing point for the Tyrrhenian coast and the Mediterranean basin.

The property is located between the heights of the Stilaro and Allaro valleys, as well as the Ionian Sea, in the municipality of Monasterace (population 3,312), which bears witness to an ancient history, thanks to its folkloric traditions, historical monuments, the presence of the Doric temple of Apollo with its Greek mosaics and the resurfacing of archaeological finds. Legend has it that, in the 8th century AD, Caulone, son of Cleta, the wet nurse of the queen of the Amazons, landed at the Monasterace Lighthouse, founding Kaulon, a very important city for ancient Magna Graecia. In 2012, the largest mosaic in southern Italy was discovered in the archaeological area of Kaulon, depicting dolphins, a hippocampus and dragons. The figure of the dragon, symbol of the city, was found in another mosaic in the 1960s, exhibited at the Monasterace Museum, one of the most important in the world for Magna Graecia. The property is located near the SS-106 (Jonica), a main road that connects Taranto with Reggio Calabria. The Monasterace railway station, on the Catanzaro-Reggio Calabria line , is 1.5 km away from the property, while the junction with the A2 motorway (Rosarno) is approximately 68 km from the area.
