Montone (PG) – Fortress Rocca D’Aries

The historic monumental complex Rocca d'Aries, a fortress already existing around the year 1000, owes much of its current construction to the Fortebracci family who, starting in 1376, rebuilt the ancient fortress making it practically impregnable. It stands in an isolated and dominant position on a hill in the municipality of Montone and consists of a powerful main stone masonry fortress developed on four levels, flanked by a guardhouse and a semi-underground ticket office with a terrace roof.
Restored between 1994 and 1995, it boasts a total gross area of approximately 1,380 sqm.

Unique in its kind, Rocca d’Aries represents a prestigious investment opportunity in the green heart of Umbria. Existing since the year 1000, this imposing stone masonry fortress visually dominates a wide valley, offering breathtaking views and absolute privacy. Thanks to the conservative restoration carried out between 1994 and 1995, originally intended for museum purposes, the fortress today is in good structural condition. The interventions have combined the charm of the ancient – preserving the massive walls, the evocative spiral staircase in the tower, and a historic fireplace – with functionality, equipping the structure with a new wooden roof and complete heating, electrical, and plumbing systems. The complex boasts a main building of over 1,250 sqm spread over four above-ground floors, ideal for hosting elegant cultural centers or exclusive accommodation facilities, and lends itself perfectly to being transformed into an attraction hub with timeless charm. The property is enhanced by a guardhouse and a semi-underground ticket office in reinforced concrete covered with natural stone, featuring a usable terrace roof.

The complex is in the picturesque territory of the Province of Perugia, Municipality of Montone. The Rocca stands in an unspoiled landscape, falling within an agricultural area of environmental protection, and is situated isolated at the highest part of a hill, about 8 km north of the center of the municipality of Montone. This panoramic and strategic position allows a view over a wide area that includes the picturesque localities of Carpini, Bagnolo, and San Faustino, extending visually towards the village of Pietralunga.

Access to the site is guaranteed by the E45 highway (Orte – Ravenna axis), exiting at the Montone – Pietralunga junction. The route then continues along provincial road 201 towards Pietralunga; at approximately kilometer 6.5, turn left and, after crossing the bridge over the Carpina stream, the final stretch first runs along a comfortable municipal road and finally along a picturesque local dirt road that leads directly to the walls of the fortress.
