The estate was opened in 1934 and was used until 1983, when lava flow blocked the entry road, leaving the structure isolated. It was then extensively restored in 2004, equipped with high-tech systems and has an overall accommodation capacity of 60 beds. The building has a structure of reinforced concrete and four floors, three above ground. In the basement, there’s a museum room, a home theatre with a bar and services, and boiler rooms etc. The ground floor consists of a great central hall used as a restaurant and three other wings. In the front wing is the reception area, sitting rooms and a bar. The west wing consists of restaurant facilities, such as kitchens, storage rooms, changing rooms etc., in the one to the east , is accommodation for the employees. The mezzanine in the north wing is the custodian’s apartment, while the first floor has the hotel rooms; the estate is surrounded by vast gardens (10,000 m²). Its current function as a hotel is compliant with current urban planning and there is the possibility of planning / construction within Etna Park for tourist accommodation and cultural structures, if they promote the park. Construction is restricted by the natural surroundings, for example, protected woodland, and countryside and geological and water flow restrictions, as well as being partially included in the protected area SIC “Pineta di Adrano e Biancavilla”.

The estate is located in the Municipality of Ragalna (pop. 3,924), part of the metropolitan city of Catania (pop. 1.115,535), at an altitude of 1750 metres, inside Etna Park, in the buffer zone of the UNESCO “Mount Etna” site, in a strategic point, in the vicinity of both the volcano and the protected area, a highly scenic site close to the entrance to the Altomontana forest track, the alpine botanic garden “New Gussonea”, volcanic cones and the historic pathway Zappini Nero Mount. The estate’s surrounded by cross-country ski slopes, an adventure park and the “M. G. Fracastoro” astrophysics observatory. It’s accessible by foot or by car on the Provincial Road 92; it’s 13 km from the centre of Ragalna, 36 km from the International Airport of Catania (6th Italian airport with 7,9 million passengers in 2016), 39 km from the Port of Catania and 22 km from the Catania Railway Station.
