The area develops around the Rome Trastevere train station, an important transport hub located in the southwest sector of the capital, close to the old touristic district of Trastevere. The Memorandum of Understanding between FS and the Municipality of Rome envisages, for this urban sector of 20 ha, divided into 3 sub-districts (Quattroventi, Trastevere and Porto Fluviale), the realization of:

• Private services (service serctor, residential, retail, hotel and craft sector);

• New station services;

• New roads, public car parks;

• Public green.

The area is situated in a central zone of the City of Rome (2,872,021 inhabitants) in the immediate vicinity of Roma-Trastevere railway station between the Monteverde, Gianicolense, Trastevere and Testaccio quarters. The two largest plots will be built on between Via Quirino Majorana and Circonvallazione Gianicolense near Ponte Bianco and along Via del Porto Fluviale, near the River Tiber and the Testaccio district. The surrounding urban areas are mainly residential, with local shops and public and private amenities and some service sector and trade-craft facilities (Porto Fluviale-docks area). The area is well served by local road transport – buses and trams – with easy access to the city centre. High-frequency trains on the “FL 1” line (Orte – Fiumicino Airport) pass through the railway station, stopping at the city’s main stations (Roma Tuscolana, Nomentana, Tiburtina, Ostiense) and crossing with the metro “B” line (Ostiense and Tiburtina) and the high speed line (Roma-Tiburtina).
