The property, known as the Royal Bourbon Explosives Factory, is located in the municipality of Scafati, in the province of Salerno. The property, of historical interest, has been protected since 1997 and is located on the border with the municipality of Pompeii, in a strategic position along the A-3 motorway and the railway. The area, which extends for approximately 16 hectares, includes an exquisite park, historic buildings and pavilions, administrative buildings, refineries, and warehouses. Since 2021, the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, which has government use of the asset, has begun restoration and remediation works.

The Park of the Royal Bourbon Explosives Factory, in Scafati (SA), is a historic property owned by the State Public Property, in use by the Archaeological Park of Pompeii. Strategically located along the highway and the railway, it is easily accessible and well connected to the main cultural and tourist attractions of the provinces of Salerno and Naples. The area extends over 160,000 sqm and includes historic buildings, a monumental complex, refineries, powder processing workshops, warehouses of the Experimental Tobacco Institute and other monumental structures dating back to the period 1852-1880, such as the Chapel of Santa Barbara and the monumental entrance to the explosive area. The buildings are set in a park with tree-lined avenues and green areas, bordered by an ancient surrounding wall.
Since 2021, the Archaeological Park of Pompeii has begun restoration and remediation works, taking care of the tree-lined avenue, recovering historic crops and restoring buildings such as the former Drying House and the guards’ refuge. However, most of the buildings require further interventions for structural and functional upgrading in order to redevelop the historical and environmental site.
The Park of the Real Bourbon Explosives Factory is located in the municipality of Scafati, in the province of Salerno, on the border with the province of Naples and in the immediate vicinity of Pompeii, one of the most significant and visited archaeological sites in the world. Although from an administrative point of view the site is part of the territory of Scafati, it is included in the metropolitan area ofNaples. The property is in a privileged position, well connected to the main destinations and tourist attractions of the provinces of Naples and Salerno (cultural, naturalistic, seaside and business ones). The “Pompei Centro- Scafati” exit on the A-3 motorway (Naples-Salerno) is 1.8 km from the property (5 minutes by car), while the Scafati railway station, on the Naples-Salerno regional line, is 1.4 km from the area (15 minutes on foot – 3 by car). Naples’ “Capodichino” international airport is approximately 32 km from the property (25-35 minutes by car).
