The Calafuria Tower is located on a cliff at 15 m above sea level in the namesake location, south of the Municipality of Livorno, along the State Road Aurelia (SS1), in a seaside getaway context with large tourist affluence.
Its structure, which dates back to 1550, is entirely made of stones and bricks and is laid out onto three aboveground floors built on a strong basement. The three floors of the building are connected via a small-size internal staircase, which lead to a single environment on each level. The entrance to the building is located on the first floor, which can be reached through an external masonry staircase. The asset needs restoration and conservation works, presenting an electric system but lacking a water/sanitation one.
The Tower used to be part of the mighty defensive system of the city of Livorno, which was made of fortresses, watchtowers and military outposts built all along the coast and inland. Over the course of WW2, the Tower was significantly damaged and was later restored with roofing and chemin-de-ronde works.

Calafuria Tower is located in the southern suburb of the city of Livorno (population 154,583), the Provincial Capital of the namesake Province, in Tuscany. The property (at 15 m above sea level) raises along the Via Aurelia, a short distance away from State Road 1 (SS1) and from the modern bridge built after WW2 near that of the Tyrrhenian railway system. The building is located between Antignano and Quercianella, in an area of significant landscape interest (Calafuria Natural Reserve), with large tourist affluence in the summer. The portion of coastline on which it is built (which falls within the Arcipelago Toscano National Park) and its proximity to the Monti Livornesi Provincial Park offer plenty of opportunities for hiking, trekking, horse-riding, sailing, snorkelling, diving and fishing enthusiasts. The Tower is located 15 km away from the city centre (20 minutes by car) and is easily accessed via the Via Aurelia (SS1). The “Livorno Centrale” railway station is 13 km away from the building (20 minutes by car) and ensures a connection with Florence, Rome, Turin, Grosseto and Pisa. Pisa’s “Galileo Galilei” international airport is located 30 km away from the area (30 minutes by car).
