The project provides for the regeneration of the urban area in which the castle, an historical building in Desenzano del Grappa, is located, with the aim to attract more tourists not only during the summer season but also throughout the year. The project is part of a wider programme for the redevelopment of the old town, initiated more than thirty years ago, that, starting from the lake, is now progressively involving the inner historical streets.
The project idea provides for two intervention projects in the castle area:
Desenzano del Garda is a town in the province of Brescia, in Lombardy, on the south-west bank of the homonymous lake. In the first century the area around the Lake Garda, including the current Desenzano del Garda, was the favourite holiday destination for the elite of Verona, which was one of the biggest Roman cities in northern Italy.
The town is a popular tourist destination in south Europe: it attracts tourists from the surroundings not only for its splendid view of the Alps from the south bank of the lake, but also for its wide beaches (Desenzanino Beach, Spiaggia Oro, and Porto Rivoltella Beach) and its 27 main hotels.
Desenzano is the heart of the nightlife on the south bank of Lake Garda, with numerous discos and pubs. In Summer its main squares, Piazza Malvezzi and Piazza Matteotti, are crowded every evening with partying young people. In the heart of the town there are interconnected squares with many outdoor cafes, elegant shops, and bars.
Desenzano is easily reachable both by private and public transport, thanks to its railway station, well served also by high-speed trains, and two highway accesses. The airports of Verona and Bergamo are very near, respectively at 35- and 55-minute drive.
